Tien Sa Beach

Tien Sa Beach

Tien Sa Beach is about 9 km northeast from the centre of the city.  Nestled in the Son Tra natural conservation area, it is known for its legendary Mo Coi (Orphaned) Mountain and its poetic Duyen Thuy beach.

Tien Sa is in the shape of a mushroom with its head being the Son Tra Mountain and its stem being white sand. The origin of the name ‘Tien Sa’ came from a legend associated with the beauty of the site.

The Tien Sa Legend is that fairies were fascinated by the beauty of the Son Tra Mountain. The fairies called for each other to descend to the Earth to admire it. Together they admired the majestic mountains, romantic streams, clear blue waters and soft white sands.

The fairies decided to swim in the clear blue waters and left their wings onshore. They wallowed in cool seawater and played with the waves until evening. Each day at sunset, the fairies would fly back up to the sky. This continued and soon attracted the attention of a fisherman, who was watching them. He fell in love with the fairies’ beauty and hid behind the rocks to watch them every day.

One day, this fisherman hid one of the fairies’ wings in a cave. When the sunset was coming, and the fairies prepared to fly back up to the sky, this fairy could not find her wings. She had become trapped in the Son Tra paradise. The fisherman proposed and she accepted to stay on the Earth with that man, and became a happy spouse.
